Sianok Canyon

As I mention before Next to the Japanese caves lies a canyon at the outskirt of Bukitinggi called Ngarai Sianok. The Sianok is part of Sumatera’s rift valley that runs the full length of the island.

The area of Sianok Canyon it is 15 kilometers long and about 100 – 150 meters deep making it the ‘grand canyon’ of Indonesia, very colorful and surround by a green valley with a winding river at its bottom. Sianok gorge was created by an earthquake.
The beauty of this panoramic landscape is hard to describe as if no words can precisely express this geological wonder. It is even harder to find its rival in the whole country. That is why West Sumatera is very proud of it and always invites visitors to enjoy it. Even local people always make it as an item in their tour lists.
